Conocí a Juan en Esquel, es de esas personas de corazón duro y fiel, durante años compartimos numerosas vivencias y trabamos una linda relación. Luego anduvimos por caminos diferentes, pero siempre que obtuve noticias por colegas y amigos todos ellos coincidían en la fortaleza de su trabajo y lo más importante en la calidez y honestidad de su persona.

Juan tiene una bonita familia con la que comparte su trabajo, y no es fácil a la distancia, y sus pasatiempos fierreros en Esquel. Para nosotros es un motivo de orgullo haber compartido sus primeros tiempos en minería y ver el crecimiento que tuvo. En aquellas épocas donde el Cianuro era una palabra que drásticamente nos limitaba a ser escuchados. Hoy Juan convive con el uso y manipulación de soluciones cianuradas y esta convencido que el estricto cumplimiento de los procedimientos es fundamental para el éxito de su trabajo, y de ahí la bajada de esta nota.

Pensamos que es un justo reconocimiento conocer a los actores que hacen una actividad dándoles el espacio para que puedan contarnos su historia.

Así fueron los inicios

Estaba trabajando como brigadista en incendios forestales, se terminó la temporada y salió la posibilidad de trabajo de una empresa minera que llegaba a Esquel. Antes de ser brigadista, trabajaba en un taller mecánico y fui bombero voluntario durante 12 años. En ese momento las expectativas que tenía, era la de conseguir un trabajo fijo, en el cual pudiera progresar. Ingrese a la empresa con los conocimientos que me dio ser brigadista, bombero y mecánico de autos. En minería no tenía ningún conocimiento.

Tengo un hermano trabajando en minería. Cuando se enteró que yo estaba trabajando en una minera hizo todo lo posible para entrar, al poco tiempo lo llamaron, vive como yo en Esquel y trabaja en Santa Cruz.

Visto a la distancia, como se forjo el camino

En el año 1999 comencé como ayudante de Geólogo, después pasé a controlar un equipo de perforación y en 2011 pase a ocupar el puesto de Supervisor de Planta de Proceso.

Cuando ingrese a minera El Desquite, era solo por tres meses y debido a que el proyecto fue creciendo, trabaje durante 7 años. Con respecto a las responsabilidades que me daban, recuerdo que las primeras fueron: manejar una camioneta 0Km, controlar la ubicación, posicionar un equipo de perforación y también el control y medición de testigos de perforación de diamantina.

Mis formadores dentro de minera El Desquite fueron: Marc Sale y Damián Echavarría. Con el primer geólogo que trabaje fue Sergio Kain.

Las responsabilidades nuevas que se me iban dando, me ayudaban a crecer y a tener más conocimientos de una actividad que era nueva para mí.

Pude progresar, tener una buena cobertura médica para mi familia y hoy en día estoy terminando mi casa.

Actualmente soy el responsable en el armado de celdas de riego para la extracción del mineral, ya que se trabaja con el método de lixiviación en pila* con una solución cianurada.

La mirada sobre la actividad Minera

Me preocupa la desinformación y la falta de compromiso para mostrarle a la sociedad que la minería se puede realizar, cumpliendo los procedimientos y llevando a cabo los controles medioambientales.

La falta de inversión, cuando hablo de falta de inversión, estoy haciendo referencia a que las empresas no realizan programas educativos, mostrando la actividad minera y los controles que esta lleva a través de los procedimientos actuales.

Me siento muy cómodo como empleado minero, sobre todo trabajando en Perito Moreno es una gran tranquilidad; en los años que trabaje en Esquel me sentía incómodo, ya que la actividad minera, no estaba bien

vista y mi mayor temor fue que mis hijos tuvieran que sufrir las consecuencias.

Hoy en día me siento parte de la comunidad y nunca deje de serlo, mi trabajo es tan bueno como cualquier otro. Estoy convencido que el trabajo minero puede llevarse a cabo con los debidos controles y la formación del empleado.

* Juan desarrolla el proceso en su trabajo:

La lixiviación es un proceso hidrometalúrgico, el cual consiste en la obtención de diversos metales al tratarlos con una solución acuosa cianurada, en este caso para liberar metales preciosos oro y plata, para ello el material triturado es transportado mediante camiones de gran tonelaje, hacia la cancha de lixiviación, la cual esta impermeabilizada con una capa de arcilla compactada y luego lleva una geomembrana que recubre toda la cancha lixiviada, cuyo propósito es el de evitar la contaminación del medio ambiente al dejar percolar la solución de cianuro a mantos acuíferos o suelo en general, sobre dicha membrana se dispone de sistema de drenes (tuberías ranuradas) que permiten recoger las soluciones que se infiltran a través del material. Después se forman las celdas, donde se riega por un sistema de riego por goteo, con una solución cianurada donde se controla el PPM y el PH de la misma. Al formar las pilas, por medio de maquinaria se forman las celdas de lixiviación, estas miden aproximadamente 40 m de ancho por 25 m de largo y la altura de los bancos es de 6 m. La percolación de la solución rica pasa por unas columnas con carbón activado, el carbón absorbe el mineral, la solución pobre que sale de los tanques se le controla nuevamente el PPM y el PH y se envía a la zona de riego, donde se genera un circuito cerrado. Este circuito cerrado, solo tiene pérdidas de agua por la evaporación de la misma.

    Gracias a Dios tuve un excelente equipo de trabajo a cargo, tuve la suerte de poder interactuar con los empleados de Patagonia Gold quienes enriquecieron mis conocimientos explicándome con detalle los diferentes procesos mineros y también de compartir vivencias con los habitantes de Perito Moreno, ciudad a la que algún día quisiera regresar.
